A new way of looking at things...

All Kohanim share a few particular middos (character traits). The two most evident ones are Z'rizus (zealotry) and Ahava (love). Pinchas was the perfect example of Z'rizus and Aharon HaKohain was the embodiment of Ahava as he was called an "Ohaiv Shalom" (peace maker).

This weekend I had an epiphany... instead of looking at what divides the Jewish people and centering my thoughts on what people are doing wrong, I would like to focus my attention on Achdus (brotherhood) and Shalom.

"Kol Yisrael Areivim Ze L'zeh" All Jews are responsible for one another.

I thought: if the Beis HaMikdash was destroyed because of baseless hatred, perhaps we can merit its rebuilding if we show endless love for one another.

I am going to try to do this more and more. I call upon all my readers to try and do the same.

May Hashem see our efforts to reconcile with one another and bless us with the imminent coming of the Messiah.

FYI: I designed the above bumper sticker and am having copies made to distribute. Look for it around the LA area. If you are interested in having one email me at Judahhakohain(at)Yahoo(dot com) and I will see what I can do.

Withdrawal is the Model for Jerusalem

Here it comes...
(from Israel National News)

The EU envoy to the Middle East, Mark Otte, said in an interview appearing this weekend that Israel's recent uprooting of Jewish communities is a model for the rest of Samaria, Judea and Jerusalem.

"Our position regarding the West Bank and east Jerusalem is identical - they are occupied territories, and the future of Jerusalem will also be discussed in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians," Mr. Otte told Al-Quds, a Jerusalem-based Arabic-language newspaper.

Martin Luther King on Zionism

"... You declare, my friend; that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist'. And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of G-d's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews -- this is G-d's own truth."

"Anti-Semitism, the hatred of the Jewish people, has been and remains a blot on the soul of mankind. In this we are in full agreement. So know also this: anti-Zionist is inherently anti-Semitic, and ever will be so."

"Why is this? You know that Zionism is nothing less than the dream and ideal of the Jewish people returning to live in their own land. The Jewish people, the Scriptures tell us, once enjoyed a flourishing Commonwealth in the Holy Land. From this they were expelled by the Roman tyrant, the same Romans who cruelly murdered our L-rd. Driven from their homeland, their nation in ashes, forced to wander the globe, the Jewish people time and again suffered the lash of whichever tyrant happened to rule over them."

"The Negro people, my friend, know what it is to suffer the torment of tyranny under rulers not of our choosing. Our brothers in Africa have begged, pleaded, requested -- DEMANDED -- the recognition and realization of our inborn right to live in peace under our own sovereignty in our own country."

"How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfillment of G-d's promise, that His people should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land. This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less."

"And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is anti-Semitism."

"The anti-Semite rejoices at any opportunity to vent his malice. The times have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a hatred of the Jews. This being the case, the anti-Semite must constantly seek new forms and forums for his poison. How he must revel in the new masquerade! He does not hate the Jews, he is just 'anti-Zionist'!"

"My friend, I do not accuse you of deliberate anti-Semitism. I know you feel, as I do, a deep love of truth and justice and revulsion for racism, prejudice, and discrimination. But I know you have been misled -- as others have been -- into thinking you can be 'anti-Zionist' and yet remain true to those heartfelt principles that you and I share. Let my words echo in the depths of your soul: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews -- make no mistake about it."

Peace Upon Israel

As the hour of the expulsion is rapidly approaching, I beg Jews on both sides to remember that we are all brothers.

Ahavas Israel is of the utmost importance and we should take this opportunity to show the world that we care for one another.

May Hashem bless all our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael and grant them peace.

Looks like peace at last!

From Fox News:

In the Palestinian town of Khan Younis, Palestinian children rushed toward the wall of a nearby Jewish settlement and placed a flag from the Hamas (search) militant group on it — prompting Israeli soldiers to fire warning shots.

The Hamas rally in southern Gaza occurred as some 2,000 people, most of them children and teens, marched through town to celebrate Israel's pullout from Gaza. Also marching were some 200 hundred masked gunmen carrying rocket launchers and machine guns.

"This is only the first step to liberating all of Palestine, including Jerusalem east and west and every inch of Palestinian land from the sea to the river," said Hamas spokesman Younis al-Astal.

Hamas and other militant groups have been seeking to portray the Israeli withdrawal, which got underway this week, as a victory for violent resistance. Israel fears that perception could lead to further militant attacks after the pullout, undermining efforts to jump start Mideast peacemaking.

Palestinian leaders have vowed to maintain law and order after the Israeli pullout. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia (search) and other Palestinian leaders began a campaign to clean up Gaza's streets under the slogan, "Gaza Clean and Beautiful."

Qureia wore a T-shirt saying, "Today Gaza. Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem."

Do not Fear - Deuteronomy Chapter 4

25 When you will beget children, and children's children, and you will have been long in the land, and will deal corruptly, and make a graven image, even the form of any thing, and will do that which is evil in the sight of the L-RD your G-d, to provoke Him; 26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you will soon utterly perish from off the land which you go over the Jordan to possess it; you will not prolong your days upon it, but will utterly be destroyed.

27 And the L-RD will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations, where the L-RD shall lead you away. 28 And there you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 But from there you will seek the L-RD your G-d; and you will find Him, if you search after Him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 In your distress, when all these things have come upon you, in the end of days, you will return to the L-RD your G-d, and hearken unto His voice; 31 for the L-RD your G-d is a merciful God; He will not fail you, nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore unto them.

On this night, weep and wail, my children,
for on this night my Holy Temple was detroyed
and my palaces were burnt down,
the entire House of Israel shall lament over my agony,
and they shall bewail the conflagration
that Hashem has ignited.

Parshas Devarim - The Book of Deuteronomy

Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the L-RD swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

Behold, the L-RD your G-d has set the land before you; go up, take possession, as the L-RD, the G-d of your fathers, has spoken unto you; fear not, neither be dismayed.

Protests over Burg's Plan to Eat 'Festive Meal' on Ninth of Av Fast Day
from Arutz Sheva

Rabbis and public leaders are furious over a statement by former Labor Knesset Member Avraham Burg that he will eat a festive meal Sunday afternoon, the Ninth of Av. Many secular as well as observant Jews observe a 24 hour fast from sundown Saturday in memory of the destruction of the ancient First and Second Temples.

Burg, a vocal supporter of the expulsion plan, said on an Israeli radio program that a festive meal would mark what he termed Israel's nearing control over its destiny following the planned expulsion of Jews from Gaza and northern Samaria.

Burg's father, Yosef Burg, was leader of the National Religious Party, but his son identifies with the Conservative movement. Shas Sephardic party leader MK Eli Yishai said that Burg's comments represent an "anti-Jewish philosophy." Burg's statement proves his lack of understanding of Torah and Jewish Law, according to former MK Chanan Porat.

Mass Prayer Against Expulsion at Foot of Holy Temple Mount

Jews across Israel are taking part in a mass prayer at Jerusalem's Western Wall, just below the Temple Mount, Wednesday to call on G-d to stop the expulsion of Jews from their homes in Gush Katif.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Haredi and National Religious rabbis are calling upon all Jews to take part in a mass prayer at the Western Wall Wednesday for the "nullification of the uprooting decree."

Former Ashkenazi and Sephardi Chief Rabbis Avraham Shapira and Mordechai Eliyahu, who have long led protests against the Gaza expulsion plan, will lead rabbis in a united call directed to the Heavens, rather than toward Israel's Knesset. Rabbis Shapira and Eliyahu will be joined by Shas Party Leader and former Sephardi Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, members of the Haredi-religious Council of Torah Sages, former MK Rabbi Menachem Porush and other prominent Hassidic rabbis.

Aharon HaKohain (2365-2488 or 1395-1272 BCE)

This Shabbos is the Yarzheit (anniversary of the death) of our Holy Father, the High Priest Aharon HaKohain and his son the High Priest Elazar ben Aharon HaKohain (years apart on the same day).

It is interesting to note that it is also the beginning of the 9 days which culminate with Tisha B'Av, the destruction of our two holy Temples (years apart on the same day).

Lessen your joy and pray for the rebuilding of the Temple speedily in our days.
