Happy Lag BaOmer!

Arutz Sheva:

Thousands of bonfires across the country tonight will mark Lag BaOmer, the 33rd day of the Omer period, remembering Rabbi Akiva, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and Bar Kokhba.

The minor holiday of Lag BaOmer, the 33rd day of the Omer period between Pesach (Passover) and Shavuot (Pentecost), commemorates three occasions: the end of a period of mourning for thousands of students of Rabbi Akiva who died in a plague, the anniversary of the death of Kabbalah-author Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai, and Bar Kokhba's revolt against the Romans.

Lag BaOmer is marked most notably with traditional bonfires throughout the country. A tradition kept by Jewish children of all backgrounds in Israel, the bonfires represent the light of Torah, and especially that of the Kabbalah, brought to the world by Rabbi Shimon.

Israel's Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger, in his work B'Maagalei HaChayim, notes that the custom of playing with bows and arrows on this day is "apparently because tradition tied this date with the Bar Kokhba rebellion." A learned article on the subject by Rabbi Pinchas Stolper can be seen here.

"Now´s the Time to Find Holy Lost Ark"

An unnamed Kabbalist has granted blessing to famed archeologist Dr. Vendyl Jones to uncover the Holy Ark of the Covenant. J ones plans to excavate the Lost Ark by the Tisha B’Av Fast this summer.
The famed archaeologist, the inspiration for the “Indiana Jones” movie series, has spent most of his life searching for the Ark of the Covenant. The ark was the resting place of the Ten Commandments, given to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, and was hidden just before the destruction of the First Temple.

The Talmud says the Ark is hidden in a secret passage under the Temple Mount. Jones says that the tunnel actually continues 18 miles southward, and that the Ark was brought through the tunnel to its current resting place in the Judean Desert.

Today is the Yahrtzeit of Choni Me'agel

From Nehora.com

Choni HaMe'agel lived during the Second Temple period. Once the people turned to Choni HaMe'agel and asked him to pray for rain. He prayed, but no rain fell. What did he do? He drew a circle and stood within it and called out, "Master of the Universe, Your children have turned to me because I am like a member of your household. I swear by Your great name that I will not move from here until You have mercy upon Your children."

A light rain began to fall. He said, "It is not for this that I have asked, but for rain to fill cisterns, ditches, and pools." The rain began to come down forcefully. He said, "It is not for this that I have asked, but for rain of favor, blessing, and bounty." The rain then fell in the normal way.
It rained so much that everybody in Yerushalayim went to the Temple Mount to escape the flooding. They told Choni HaMe'agel, "Just as you prayed for the rain to fall, pray for the rain to leave." The Nassi, Shimon ben Shetach, sent a message to Choni, saying, "Were it not that you are Choni I would have decreed upon you nidui [a ban; excommunication; because he troubled the All-Present about the rain so many times (see Rashi on Berachot. 19a)]. But shall I do to you? You importune God and He accedes to your request like a son who importune his father and he accedes to his request..." The rain fell on the 20th of Adar after 3 years of drought and famine, and it became a day of rejoicing (Mishnah Taanit 2:10-12, 66d).
